Magician erroneously kills himself while entertaining his audience

Theprit Palee, 25 years old magician, who trying to show his audience that nothing could harm him ended up committing suicide in the presence of his spectators.

The incident which took place on Wednesday afternoon in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand, occurred when Palee was performing a Thai traditional dance in front of the onlookers.

As a normal routine, he would press a long sword against his chest but the sword would break instead of piercing through his chest. But, on this particular day, instead of breaking, the sword went straight into his rib cage making him go fatally limp almost immediately.

People attempted to help him but he was later pronounced dead at hospital.

A resident, Noom Udorn, said :

“This is a tradition that happens every year. The sword normally breaks but this time it went inside him.
‘The medium has been respected for many years. People love him. He is one of people’s favourites,” Udorn said.

Chaiwat Phan, the Deputy Police Inspector, said him and his men got to the San Kamphaeng district of the province at 3pm and found the man already bleeding.

“We were informed that a man armed with a knife had stabbed himself. We are coordinating with the hospital while an autopsy is performed. There were people at the scene helping Mr Palee but he died later in hospital. He had a stab wound to the chest,” he said.
