It was a day set aside to reward hard work and determination to excel for students of St Graags College as the school management hosted them to glamorous event during her seventh termly award ceremony on Friday May 5, 2017.
The school located at 4, Adelani Ajayi Close and 41, Osundeyi Street both in Mafoluku, Oshodi-Isolo, Lagos, had her termly award ceremony which was introduced so as to improve, challenge and honour students who have emerged successful in the various award categories.
The Principal, Mr. Obiola while speaking with gracagist, said that the event was a way of celebrating and inculcate the reading habit back into the student. He hinted that the school management hopes to make the award ceremony a weekly affair.
He said:“We have seen competitive and academic rivalry among the student"
In a reaction to the question about his advice to parents with wards in the school, he said: “Parents of wards in St. Graags School should try as much as possible to pay their children’s fees promptly and to at the same time equip them with adequate reading materials to compliment what they are being taught in the school”, he said
Obiola encouraged parents to enroll their wards into the school, in order to experience a turnaround in their academic performance.
Mr Bassey Kanu, a staff of the school said that the school's management adopted the initiative when they realized how it has helped his student improve in their academics.
He further mentioned that they have been getting various encouraging testimonies from parents and gaurdians, as students studied ceaselessly because of the award ceremony.
He added that this year ceremony recorded a fresh record, as a Junior Secondary Student in JSS 1 emerged the overall winner and best student respectively; this was different from past where the science student in the senior secondary school emerged winners.
He stressed that the students have become more competitive as a student that came first in a class in first term, didn’t make it to the top five in the following term.
Amazing Grace, the overall best student expressed her happiness; she credited her success to her consistent reading habit, in her words:
