Breaking News: British PM Wants Early Election Held on June 8

Theresa May, British Prime Minister, minutes ago made surprise announcement of an early general election to be held on June 8.
The Prime Minister Speaking outside Downing Street, said: "We agreed that the Government should call a General Election to be held on the 8th of June".

Mrs. May said the election was necessary because there was "division" in Westminster over Brexit, with Labour and the Lib Dems opposing the Government's approach to leaving the European Union.

She made this announcement in spite of her repeated insistence that there will be no early general election.

It came after a morning of speculation at Westminster after Downing Street announced Mrs. May would be making a key statement but gave no clue what it would be about.

Though, in theory, no election needs to be held until 2020. But there is believe that she will get support.

There have been speculations among journalists that the announcement could relate to the Prime Minister's health, as Mrs May suffers from diabetes. The speculation was firmly denied by Downing Street and provoked an angry reply as the Prime Minister joint Chief of Staff, Fiona Hill, contacted Sky News journalist Adam Boulton to tell him she would be making an official complaint about the speculation.
