President Muhammadu Buhari is currently presiding over the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting is being attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and several other ministers.
The meetings started at a few minutes after 11am.
Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who said the Muslim prayer the opening prayer sought God’s guidance through the interesting times Nigeria is currently passing through.
The Minister of State for Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu also asked for God’s guidance through the day’s deliberations.
The minister’s prayer may not be unconnected with the gale of defections that has hit the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defections continued on Tuesday with Senate President Bukola Saraki, Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Africa, Alhaji Ahmed Ibeto, moving to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Fifteen Senators and 37 members of the House of Representatives had two weeks ago defected to the PDP as well.
