President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, said God will expose and chase away criminals and bad eggs as well as sycophants still in the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The President, who stated this in Bauchi at a campaign rally for the APC candidate for the Bauchi South senatorial by-election, slated for August 11, was reacting to recent defection of some APC chieftains to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His words: “What I will never exhibit is to allow selfish politicians loot public treasury and allow the masses be cheated. All what we are doing is in the interest of the people and our dear country. “I prayed to God to expose sycophants that are still within our party, who are bent on trying to loot our resources. It is my prayer that God will chase away criminals from APC.

” The president further said his administration had not relented in addressing the security challenges in the country as well as placing the nation on a sound economic footing. Buhari stated that his government had remained faithful in implementing its campaign promises of improving the economy, securing the country, and the fight against corruption. “The work we are doing is because of God, our country and you. I want to inform you that the knowledge we have garnered over the years, we won’t allow you to be cheated.
“Like we promised, what will determine a good future for the country are security, strong economy and to stop corruption. “We campaigned on these things, you voted for us and we will never forget,” the President said. He, therefore, urged the people of Bauchi South to vote for the APC candidate, Alhaji Lawal Gumau, in the by-election. “Thank God that even with the rainfall in Bauchi today, you still came out to welcome me. I am in Bauchi today to seek for your support and votes, help me to elect the APC senatorial candidate for Bauchi South by-election.
I will not allow cheating in Nigeria, but my ambition is to improve on the security, agriculture and the economy,” Buhari said. National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, described former members of the party, who recently defected to the opposition parties, as looters. According to him, the defectors are afraid that they will go to prison if Buhari wins the 2019 presidential election.
“This is a clear indication that some of them (defectors) have been sharing the country’s resources for 16 years, but failed to do that in the last three years. Most of them are afraid of the anti-corruption crusade being waged by this administration, and are sure that they will find themselves behind bars; that they will rot in jail.
“There is no going back on sending those found wanting to jail, no matter how highly placed they are. We are happy over such defection because we are fed up with the nefarious activities being perpetrated by them,” he said. Like the President, Oshiomhole also said that thieves are not needed in the party.

His words: “We are here today to support our President and our candidate for the Bauchi South senatorial by-election. We all know in Nigeria those who enter into government to enrich themselves. PDP shared Nigeria’s money for 16 years, but President Buhari said no to it. That is why they are meeting against us.
“They say if Buhari wins election, they will all go to prison. That is why they are running from APC to form a formidable force against us. Most of them hid money in latrines, we don’t need thieves in APC; they should go. If they don’t go, we will pursue them out as two good men are better than 10 and 10 good men are better than thousands. They are holding series of meeting against us, but I certainly know it will fail.” Also speaking, Bauchi State governor, Mohammed Abubakar said Buhari stands for truth and those who love him will vote for the APC.
The governor also told the gathering not to be deceived by the antics of some former leaders. Abubakar blamed members of the National Assemgrounds bly for the country’s underdevelopment, adding that he was happy that “most of them are leaving our party.” He called on the electorate, especially those within Bauchi South senatorial district to vote for the candidate of the party during the by-election.

The state chairman of the APC, Alhaji Uba Nana, in his remarks, said the current defection of some chieftains of the party has not affected Bauchi State. According to him, instead of members of the party defecting to other parties, APC in the state has witnessed mass influx of people from other parties. On the forthcoming byelection, Nana disclosed that 25 other political parties in the state have formed an alliance with APC to enable the party emerge victorious in the poll.
