Mr Bean star Rowan Atkinson backs Boris Johnson's 'almost perfect' burqa 'joke' as Tory civil war erupts
It's now four days since Boris Johnson compared burqa-wearing women to "letterboxes" and "bank robbers".
He faces a police complaint, a Tory discipline probe and a Conservative Party civil war.
But at least he's got backing from one important person - Mr Bean.
Actor Rowan Atkinson - who has a long history of campaigning for free speech - has backed the Tory MP, claiming his "joke" was "almost perfect" so it shouldn't be condemned.
In a letter to The Times, the Blackadder and Johnny English star wrote: ""As a lifelong beneficiary of the freedom to make jokes about religion, I do think that Boris Johnson's joke about wearers of the burka resembling letterboxes is a pretty good one.
