Sergio Ramos jets to London with his wife Pilar Rubio as the stars arrive ahead of FIFA's The Best awards
Sergio Ramos has jetted to London alongside his wife Pilar Rubio for FIFA's The Best awards.
The event, which will be held from 7.30pm at the Royal Festival Hall, will see Ramos compete for a place in the FIFA/FIFPro world XI after his good 12 months for Real Madrid.

Ramos was already being put in the mood for the ceremony as the plane he traveled on with his wife had headrests branded with the logo for FIFA's The Best awards.

The Spain international defender won the Champions League with Real last season, completing three in a row under then-manager Zinedine Zidane.

While the 32-year-old has flown over for the event on Monday evening, a number of football's other big names are not planning to attend.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have decided against travelling to London for the ceremony.

Luka Modric, Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah will be competing for the best player honour.

Modric, who reached the World Cup final with Croatia after picking up the Champions League with Real Madrid at the end of last season, is aiming to break up a decade-long duopoly.

Ronaldo and Messi are the only players who have been named player of the year by FIFA in the last 10 years.

And after failing to be nominated, Messi has decided not to travel, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

He told Barcelona he could not go due to a family problem.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo will not be able to travel because of his commitments at Juventus.

They play on Wednesday night.
