Jose Mourinho, Manchester United boss, has compiled his transfer lists which are dependent on whether the club qualifies for the Champions League next season.
It seems Mourinho wants Manchester United to break the world record £89million fee paid for Paul Pogba in an attempt to assemble a title-challenging squad for next season.
He however, believes that certain targets would be unattainable if the club fail to qualify for the Champions League either through finishing in the Premier League top four or winning the Europa League.
Manchester United targets, Antoine Griezmann and Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, are insistent on playing Champions League football next season if they are to move to Manchester.
Mourinho said:
"I’m sure that in the end of the summer, probably we don’t have exactly my first options," he said. "Because it’s difficult to succeed in every attempt.
"But I am sure that we are going to do something interesting and to improve our team for next season."
Jorge Mendes, Mourinho's agent, was at the recent Europa League win and could play a key role in United's dealings as the club braces itself for renewed interest from Real Madrid in David de Gea.
United keeper, De Gea, is still open to moving to Real Madrid and United are preparing in the event Real finally sign the Spain goalkeeper.
Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak's representatives was in Manchester last week.
Mourinho said last week that United's transfer plans had changed due to injuries to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo and De Gea's possible departure could see up to six new players arrive in the summer.
They have shown interest in Paris Saint-Germain right-back Serge Aurier, having already scouted St Etienne full-back Kevin Malcuit after he impressed during the Europa League round-of-32 legs.
In central defence, United have scouted Benfica's Victor Lindelof, enquired about Atletico's Uruguay international Jose Gimenez and are keen on PSG's Marquinhos.
Bakayoko, 22, is interested in joining United and Mourinho is understood to want a second midfielder to join the France international.
Although, there is also tentative interest in Everton striker and Premier League top scorer Romelu Lukaku, United wanted to sign Griezmann regardless of whether Zlatan Ibrahimovic remained at Old Trafford next season but have identified Torino's 23-year-old figurehead Andrea Belotti as a possible replacement for the Swede.
The clubhave spent £470.7million on transfer fees since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, recruiting 19 players during that time. Six of them - Angel di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Victor Valdes, Memphis, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin - have already left.
Woodward indicated in February United would not 'churn' as much as they did during Louis van Gaal's summer transfer windows.
"In terms of where we are as a squad, I think there is always going to be continual improvement," Woodward said at the time. "Even if you win everything you still want to improve the squad, that's the nature of the dynamic and industry that we are in.
"I think we aren't necessarily in a position where we have to churn a large number of players. We want to get to a more steady state of potentially buying and selling a lower number of players each year.
"I think we're in that kind of environment now compared to where we were two or three years ago, where perhaps a little bit more churn was required from a playing squad perspective.
"We don't guide around players' spend, it's a number you can track all over the summer on a deal-by-deal basis because things are widely published when they happen."
