Barca boss Ernesto Valverde is keen to bring in midfield reinforcements ahead of his first season at the Nou Camp and has identified Paulinho as a potentially cheap option, although Guangzhou are determined to hold on to one of their marquee players.
The Chinese Super League club rejected a £17million offer from the Spanish giants earlier this month and Neymar has urged Barcelona's hierarchy to do all they can to bring Paulinho to Catalonia before the transfer window closes.
'Paulinho is a friend of mine in football,' Neymar told reporters back in his native Brazil, after featuring in a five-a-side tournament in Sao Paolo.
'I want him to sign for Barca because with a player like him, who's also a mate of mine, we'll get so much.'
Paulinho is also keen to move back to Europe after three seasons playing in the Far East.
'It is a unique opportunity for me to be able to play in Barca, the best team in the world and surrounded by the best players,' Paulinho told Mundo Deportivo.
'I have to talk to my president, since I got the proposal of Barca I have not stopped thinking about it and I am waiting for this week to resolve everything.'
