Governor Umaru Al-Makura, Nasarawa State, and some All Progressives Congress in the state have contested the removal of the Commissioner for Education, Mr Ahmed Tijani, from the senatorial race by the National Working Committee of the party.
The Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, Mr Muhammed Hassan-Abdullahi, had earlier indicated his interest to jostle with the former governor of the state, who is a serving senator representing Nasarawa West at the National Assembly, Mr Abdulahi Adamu.
However, Al-Makura, party officials, critical stakeholders and traditional rulers in the state prevailed on Hassan-Abdullahi to step for Adamu, who is from the same zone as the SSG.
An impeccable source from the Government House told our correspondent that the situation did not go down well with Adamu, hence the ongoing rift between Al-Makura and the former governor.
The governor’s Director General, Strategic Communication and Press Affairs, Mr Yakubu Lamai, in a statement, on Wednesday, said, “Differs to the wisdom of the APC party hierarchy in Abuja, its decision to clear particular aspirants and we wish to assure the party under the forthright leadership of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole that all party faithful shall work together without bitterness or acrimony to see to the success of the APC in the forthcoming elections.”
Al-Makura, according to the statement, wishes to assure the APC national leadership that Nasarawa State, as the political laboratory of President Muhammadu Buhari, is a state with an unfettered and unwavering commitment to the cause of strengthening party’s unity.
The statement read, “The interest of the party is paramount and supersedes any other consideration.
“As regards the granting of clearance for aspirants seeking legislative office under the banner of our futuristic party, Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura reaffirms herewith that APC is one family working towards the same goal.”
Al-Makura was said to have commenced a peace-building and reconciliation process before the conclusion of the APC primaries.
